Epidemiology Is The Foundation Of Public Health Essay

Epidemiology is the foundation of public health, tracking insights into the origin, allocation, and impediment of disease in populations. It is a study of how frequently diseases transpire in different groups of people and why. Various factors contribute towards the incidence of chronic disease, as identified with the development of the advanced model of the triangle of epidemiology. The triad comprises of an outer agent, a vulnerable host and a setting that brings the host and agent together (CDC, 2012). In this model, disease results from the relations between the agent and the vulnerable host in an environment that promotes the transmission of the agent from a source to that host. Disease arises when an outer agent proficient of causing the disease or injury meets a host that is subject to the agent in an environment that permits the agent and host to interact. The Health Belief Model (HBM) is a conceptual framework applied to behavioral management of patients with chronic diseas e (Merrill, 2017). Hypertensive patients’ lifestyles are able to directly influence blood pressure values. The HBM recommends that hypertensive patients reflect on a behavior by considering their perceived susceptibility to high blood pressure and the seriousness of it, as well as the benefits of the action.
